Premature Health Complications in the Type A Personality

As we all know, there are certain personality types that tend to feel greater distress in their lives. For the most part, the type A personality is an individual who often physiologically and psychologically responds to the stressors in their lives and, as a result, experiences a more prevalent set of health conditions with aging. But, what makes these health conditions form in the Type A overly stressed individual?

First, let's look at the common health conditions that develop, prematurely, in the Type A personality. Heart disease is believed to be a leading cause of health complications in the Type A personality with many experiencing an increase in blood cholesterol levels, a decrease in the output or ability to decrease cholesterol levels and an increased risk for the platelets to bind to the walls of the veins and arteries.

When these physiological complications are present, the arteries begin to clog …

Politics and the Parallels with Personal Health

Nationally, we’ve become too blasé’, too accepting that someone else is the authority and that they’ll watch over our best interests. The majority of us have decided that we’ll take someone else’s word for what’s best, who we should vote for and what we should know and believe.

I talk to lots of people about various subjects and recently the subject of both the national dilemma and personal health have kept coming up. We all have different opinions about the cause and what can be done.

Most people are adamant that something needs to be changed on the national scene, but seem complacent about their own personal health and how they deal with the parts of their personal lives that aren’t working. They think they’re too busy to be involved with politics and personal health, yet strongly feel that others should be more responsible and take the time, no matter …

Teens and Personal Freedom: How Much is Healthy?

When children reach their teen years, it becomes their parents' responsibility to know when to let go and when to pull in the reins. Adolescence is typically a time for exploration, for testing boundaries and experimenting with self-expression. Some freedom is necessary, then, if kids of this age are to learn anything about themselves. Too much free rein, however, can set them adrift in a world that they aren't yet equipped to deal with.

Total freedom can, ironically, translate to lack of caring in their minds. If we as parents don't care when they come home or who they're spending time with, can our children help but wonder whether we're concerned about their welfare at all? They may question every ground rule that we lay down, and fight us every step of the way, but that doesn't mean that they actually hope we'll always give in. Oftentimes, their resistance is …

The World Needs a Nap: How Societal and Personal Health Can Benefit From Extra Sleep

Today’s society is so fast paced that people hardly slow down long enough to breathe let alone sleep. Many people get up before the sun rises and are working until late in the night. This is not good for the body and it is not good for the world.

Sleepiness can cause a lot of problems. It is the cause of many car accidents. Tiredness also often makes people cranky and short tempered. This in turn causes many arguments and fights. Being cranky due to lack of sleep can often cause people to make bad decisions that they would not make if they were well rested and therefore not in a bad mood.

It could be that the world needs a nap. If everyone on the entire Earth just took a nap it might make the world a happy place. Everyone would at the very least feel a little better. …

Personal Health Care at Work

While doing a coop at a local employer, for credit at the state university, it was my job to use the heat chamber. I opened the door one time and got a toxic gas exposure that affects the brain and the ability to think, cyanide something and a few other chemicals. It was from foam someone else added when I was not there. I was the walking wounded with no exterior wounds just chemicals in the brain and body slowly they taking affect.

Poisoned while doing a coop, my boss sends me to the universities clinic, which says your ok, go back to work, but have hard time concentrating. Coworkers and family I see and tell don’t know to help. I see another doctor at church who says, “if you are not dead yet you should survive, take this for your diarrhea.” The fire firer at church says, “we wear …

Taking Health Care Personally

With all the uproar about “Health Care Reform” it begs the question as to what has brought our country to this health crisis in the first place. Is America so unhealthy in high numbers? Or are there other factors that haven’t been considered? Whatever the reason, we need a personal plan for safeguarding our health and that of our family’s.

Safe to say it is always better to avoid going to the doctor if there is a safe, healthy alternative. Three tips on how to make that alternative a reality in your own situation might be the first step toward overall wellness in our nation. Change, the kind that lasts, comes through one person, one family at a time.

  1. Stay positive. Does that sound simplistic? Maybe that’s why it is so hard to convince people about how much can happen by simply staying optimistic, positive and thinking healthy thoughts.
