3 Tricks To Burn More Calories During Every Workout

If you are interested in burning fat and improving your body composition, one thing that you need to be paying attention to is your daily workout calorie burn. The more calories you burn during each workout you complete, the faster the fat loss process will move along.

Speed Up

If you are doing a cardio session, adding intervals to the mix is the single best way to boost your overall calorie burn. Not only will this help you burn more calories while you are doing the workout session, but it’ll also help increase your resting metabolic rate so that you burn calories for hours after the workout session is over as well.

Try speeding up for 30-60 seconds and then going back down to your normal pace. Do this 3-5 times per workout until you can move into a full blown interval training session.

Decrease Your Rest Times

Another fast and easy way to burn calories and save time during your workout session is to decrease the amount of rest you are taking between sets during your strength training routine.

This will force your body to work harder, thus creating a higher EPOC value from the workout session. EPOC stands for excess post-exercise oxygen consumption and basically refers to how hard you worked during the workout and how much recovery the body has to do once the workout is over. The higher the EPOC, the higher your post workout calorie burn will be.

When doing this, you’ll want to consider restructuring your workout program so that you alternate between upper and lower body exercises so that while one area of the body is working, the other area can be resting. This will make it easier to still put in maximum effort while keeping your rest times shorter.

Finally, the last quick tip to burn more calories during every workout you do is to focus on the muscle contractions whenever you are doing your reps. When you actually think of each muscle contracting as you go about the rep however, this will force you to put in more effort overall. Plus, you’ll also hit the target muscles better, seeing superior results.
